The Blue Room
This futuristic Long Island theatre is the perfect example of splendor. Following our initial meeting with the client, and viewing our portfolio we were unsure as to what type of style theatre to proceed with. After speaking with the client, house Architect and the AcousticSmart design team, the client decided to go with a loosely based Frank Loyd Wright column design, which allows the pilasters to be illuminated from within through a blue diffuser panel. Light also escapes from the side slots of the pilaster causing the glowing effect. Another feature of the pilaster is that the doors are on a hinge so they are easily accessible for repair, or to change the color of the light diffusers. The Acoustical Architecture of the walls shows horizontal beveled edged panels with stainless steel reveals. We even
included a fiber optic ceiling with 3 shooting stars, big dipper, little dipper, and Orion constellations. The end result would be a Contemporary Zen type atmosphere to be used either for meditation, listening to Hi-End music recordings or for watching films.
Once we finalized the design, it was time to begin the installation. Many factors would shape the installation of this room. The largest challenge of this room was the fact that it was on the third floor of the home. We would need to isolate the room from the rest of the house by using AcousticSmart noise barrier treatment and floating floor decouplers, resilient channel and two layers of sheetrock. We also went the extra mile to custom gasket the entry doors to prevent sound leakage to the adjacent rooms. Next we needed to devise additional layouts and platforms to account for the pre-existing platform and the third row of seating. The room had two doors, with different entry points. We had to redesign the layout around the existing platforms to make sure the room performance was acceptable under these circumstances. The oversized fiber optic ceiling with shooting stars, and constellations and the tall motorized theatre curtain give the illusion of a higher ceiling. Once the walls and ceiling where in place it was time for the audio dealer AV Systems to bring in the A/V components. We where able to incorporate the Subwoofer and also the DVD player into the room via custom end-tables so that the components blend in with the rest of the look. Once this was completed, we brought in 15 AcousticSmart cinema loungers with dual motor mechanisms to motorize both the footrest and back both independently for the ultimate in control and comfort. The last finishing touch was a custom motorized theatre curtain w/ two rows of trim and 1 row of bullion fringe.
To start the magic, the client just touches the button on the Crestron, the lights dim, curtains open, the stars come out…LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
